Night Skies by Marcy Smith

In a previous newsletter Wes Wilson gave us some amazing information on Night Skies and Light pollution.  Thank you Wes!  As a very amateur photographer myself, I am amazed by our night skies.  The Milky Way is very visible with the naked eye during the summer months.  I took these pictures Monday morning around 2:30 with my Iphone 13Pro Max!  Using a tripod, to access the 30 second night shutter setting.. wow.

So, interrupt your sleep one night, keeping all your lights off.. using a flashlight for safety of finding a good viewing spot (even better to cover the end of your flashlight with red cellophane..) It can take between 20 and 30 minutes for your eyes to fully “dark adapt“ and reach peak sensitivity to low light conditions, It does make a difference especially when you are wanting to sit back and enjoy the celestial views and meteor showers. But if you’re like me and not the patient type, and scaredy cat,  take pictures!  So when your  horses come thundering through the darkness with only their glowing eyes running from some unseen predator (probably just me standing out in the field), you’ll want to hurry inside because whatever is chasing them.. will definitely catch me.
